Editorial policy

How BuildMetric researches, writes, reviews, and corrects contractor financial guidance.

Last reviewed: July 11, 2026

Accuracy before volume

BuildMetric publishes only when a tool has a well-defined purpose and its math can be independently checked. We do not create pages merely to cover a keyword. Calculator logic and explanatory content are treated as one product: if the prose and formula disagree, the product is not ready.

We prefer primary sources such as tax authorities, labor agencies, statutes, and original industry documentation. Credible secondary sources may add context, but do not replace controlling guidance when one exists.

Our review process

  • Define the user decision and identify where the calculator stops being reliable
  • Document formulas, units, rounding behavior, and input boundaries
  • Check worked examples independently from implementation
  • Test expected results and edge cases before publication
  • Review time-sensitive assumptions and source links on a recurring basis

Independence and commercial relationships

Editorial conclusions are not sold. If BuildMetric receives compensation through an affiliate relationship or sponsorship, we disclose it where a reader can see it before acting. Compensation does not change formulas, ratings, or the standards used to include a product.
